DIY May 28th, 2008

electric_origami_box_1.jpg

What is origami?

Origami is an art form that has a certain essence. It is beautiful, created by hand, and many times involves great detail within its making and presentation. To keep up with the times, you can now mix technology and origami together by adding electric lighting to it.

By the combination of LED and a little further involvement of the project, a neat lit box is provided which may be hung as a decoration, left to dazzle guests, or simply a way to prove to yourself you can both create Origami work and add some tech to.

Largest Drawing in the World by GPS Tracking and DHL

Cool May 28th, 2008

gps_unit_large_drawing.jpg

The largest drawing in the world was created by a GPS unit continually shipped throughout the world.

As a final project for DHL Advertising and Design course, a GPS unit was packed in a briefcase, which can withstand major shipping, moving, throwing, and additional human and nature interaction. It was sent out worldwide and instead of using a pen, the GPS was being tracked to create a physical drawing of the trip.

First-Person Gamers 180-Degree Vision with JDome

Computer May 12th, 2008

jDome is an invention that will give gamers a massive 180-degree field of vision instead of the usual 15 to 20 degrees they get from their monitors. All you need ti do is put the jDome in front of a projector, mirror the image in the projector, change the Field of View and go into the game. Nilsson’s already patented his idea, and he’s looking for donations to get the jDome into production.

Circuit Board Propeller Clock

DIY, Electronics May 11th, 2008

This clock creation is made of only a circuit board, a small motor and LED’s.

How it Works?

A motor spins the “propeller”, and a small microprocessor keeps track of time and changes the pattern on seven LEDs with exact timing to simulate a 7 by 30 array of LEDs. It is an illusion, but it works nicely.

If you want to build this clock, you will need a few things, including:

  • Skill with motors and mechanical things.
  • Prior electronic experience.
  • A dead VCR or floppy drive or other source of a suitable motor and miscellaneous parts.
  • A programmer that will program a PIC16C84 or 16F84 microprocessor.
